Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Global International joined Youth for Human Rights International and Team 29 Responsibility at Colombo's popular Eat Street CMB open-air food festival to raise awareness of human rights.
Colombo, Sri Lanka, February 16, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Eshani Diana Jayapala, Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Global International, became a Goodwill Ambassador for Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) and joined YHRI’s Sri Lanka affiliate, Team 29 Responsibility. The group held a rally February 12 at the Eat Street CMB open-air food festival to educate Sri Lanka youth on their rights and urge them to defend the rights of others.
Ms. Jayapala wants to set an example for the youth of Sri Lanka to inspire them to get involved and improve the world around them through action.
I joined the YHRI family because I want to create a positive change in the Sri Lankan community and give hope to less fortunate children and families.

“I joined the YHRI family because I want to create a positive change in the Sri Lankan community and give hope to less fortunate children and families,” she says.
The group, which launched its activities with a Walk for Human Rights in January, handed out hundreds of booklets and information sheets in Tamil, Sinhalese and English. These materials describe the 30 fundamental human rights expressed in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Some 40 young people signed on to become new members of the group.
Team 29 Responsibility President and Vice-President, Rihan Admed and Anas Mafahir, now plan to expand their activities to the north and then take the initiative island-wide.
“Some believe that with modern technology and easy access to the Internet, today’s youth are more self-centered and disconnected, but this is not true,” said Ruslan Khusainov, Youth for Human Rights International Executive Director. “Volunteers of Team 29 Responsibility are working to empower youth by making them aware of their rights and responsibilities and connecting them with a common purpose.”
Team 29 Responsibility takes its name from Article 29 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that states that everyone is responsible for implementing these rights and demanding them for themselves and others.
Youth for Human Rights International is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001. Its purpose is to inspire youth to become advocates for tolerance and peace through education on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. YHRI educational materials are translated into 27 languages, bringing the message of human rights to 195 nations.
